Mushrooms of all types are cropping up daily in the woods around our house. They are magical, and they inspire much speculating and wonder among the boys.
We are learning more about them from reading Anna Botsford Comstock's Handbook of Nature Study. It is such a valuable resource. We were also happy to discover that Blue Yonder's new Autumn edition of the Book of Days includes some fun mushroom lore and activities. I miss my favorite inspiring kid's magazines (remember Martha Stewart Kids, Nick Jr. and Wondertime?), but Stefani's Book of Days is more than making up for them.
We found a cute little book at the thrift store by Ruth Krass entitled everything under a mushroom about a little nonsense world under a mushroom. It has sparked the boys' curiosity about what might be hiding under our mushrooms . . . they are looking for footprints.
A little nonsense and imagination are always a good thing!
